What makes MCDC unique is that the aim is not just to address the lack of basic needs,
but to look at it from a holistic perspective by identifying and addressing a broader range of needs.
This is what is calledthe Comprehensive Model of Care, and these needs are the cornerstone of everything MCDC does.
Basic Needs
These are physical or material needs including food, clothing, shelter, care and child protection
Health Needs
Effective health care includes:
- Education
- Prevention
- Monitoring
- Diagnostic
- Treatment
- Care
- Follow-up
Educational Needs
Educational needs of the children include access to formal education, life skills & HIV/AIDS prevention, early childhood development programs, homework assistance, negotiation of scholarships, vocational training, entrepreneurship development and mentorship programs.
Economical Sustainability
As part of the efforts to assist the children with their physical and educational needs MCDC feeds the children at the centres and help them with their homework. It is however also necessary to look at sustainability and development, in order to effectively care for the OVC’s. MCDC recognises that their economic position and the options available to the children after they have left our care need to be addressed.
Emotional Needs
HIV/AIDS has devastated the family and social support structures. Through counselling at the Centres and the Home-Based Care and Development Program, MCDC can assist in healing emotional wounds.
Spiritual Needs
MCDC is a Christian based organisation, striving to bring God’s unending love and grace to a world that desperately needs Him.
In all the activities and projects undertaken, MCDC depend on God’s protection and guidance.
